I recently visited Doteon, a place that evokes a sense of blind love, an irresistible affection.
In Pyeongchang-dong, a quiet and peaceful area backed by Bukhansan Mountain, there lies a multifaceted cultural space named 'Doteon'. Doteon introduces itself with two seemingly disparate elements: audio and pottery. It's not just a shop selling audio equipment; rather, it's a space where one can immerse themselves in the world of audio, becoming intimately familiar with it through direct experiences and hands-on activities. Moreover, Doteon showcases and sells a variety of creations from different artists, including crafts and paintings. This harmonious fusion of elements enriches both the eyes and ears of its visitors.
On the day of our visit, Manager Choi Hyung-gil was dressed in a camel-colored wool double-breasted jacket, paired with a navy V-neck sweater, white shirt, and denim pants. The charm of the jacket seemed to emanate a sense of 'just rightness'. While other outerwear might give off an overly casual vibe, throwing on this jacket casually achieved a perfectly balanced look.
As clothing trends evolve towards simplicity, moving away from suits, the symbolic image of the suit remains potent, not easily fading away. Although casual wear has gained prominence due to this simplification, classic wear and casual jackets seem to be increasingly overlooked. Perhaps it's time to view casual jackets more generously, recognizing them as stylish statements in their own right.
We arrived a bit early for our appointment and had the chance to explore the shop. While walk-ins are welcome at Doteon, I recommend making a reservation if you prefer a quiet stroll through the showroom. For those who want to fully experience the space, booking a one-day class is a great option. You can craft your own pottery and even enjoy a session of speaker auditioning.
When the time came, we took the pottery class. There were several options to choose from, but we decided to make a moon jar, following the owner's recommendation. The wheel spun rapidly, and initially, it was intimidating, but with the owner's guidance, we slowly shaped our creation. In the end, the pottery was largely the owner's masterpiece. The process taught us that pottery isn't easy-it requires delicate hand movements and sometimes bold touches to maintain the shape. Even as an observer, it was a fascinating experience, allowing full immersion in the task at hand, reminiscent of sewing.
These days, I find it challenging to concentrate on one thing. It's easy to get distracted by our phones while reading or switch tasks before finishing a movie. This constant bombardment of distractions seems to have become a habit. However, while making pottery, those distractions vanished, allowing complete focus on the task. This level of engagement isn't just limited to pottery; it can extend to painting or any hands-on activity. Engaging in these activities as a hobby or even trying a one-day class can be a refreshing way to clear your mind..
After the pottery class, you get the opportunity to relax and enjoy an audio session at Doteon. Snacks and drinks are served, creating a comfortable atmosphere for the experience. The audio setup available for auditioning includes the Goldmund Logos 1n+2n speakers and the Goldmund Eidos 360 Blu-ray player. Goldmund products, renowned for their luxury in the global audio market, are designed based on neurology and psychoacoustics to produce a sound that closely mirrors 'RealSound', which is the most naturally pleasant to the human brain. Indeed, the audio session allows you to experience a clean and comfortable sound that you might be hearing for the first time.
It was a space that stimulated all the senses, allowing full immersion and appreciation of the moment.
A heartfelt thanks goes to the owner of Doteon for providing such a tranquil and enriching experience.
It’s not boring to wear a suit,
but it’s wonderful to wear a suit,
and we introduce it with a space.
