Monthly Works February

This post was written in February 2023.

In this era, the act of dressing extends beyond mere function. It's not just about shielding ourselves from cold or escaping the heat. Beyond maintaining decorum in a setting, clothing has become a medium for expressing one's individuality or emotions. Donning clothes is the most direct way to manifest 'self'. Here are some unique creations from February that embody this spirit of individual expression.

Beige Brown Blue Check Jacket

This jacket, crafted from Fox Brothers' sports jacketing collection, stands out with its striking color combination and pattern. Despite the contrasting colors, the harmony in tone and brightness provides a sense of balance. The pattern, represented by various line shapes, offers a sense of depth with different check forms. When made into a garment, the pattern becomes even more dimensional. The jacket paired with a denim shirt, brown tie, and cream trousers forms an ideal styling. This ensemble perfectly exemplifies tone-in-tone styling, where multiple colors are matched in similar shades.

Navy Double Suit

There are classic sayings in classic wear, and one of the quintessential examples is the 'navy blazer'. Paired with Benson & Clegg gold buttons and double-breasted design, it's a foundational combination. Although times have changed, it still holds its place as a top priority item in the wardrobe. Historically, the navy blazer was an informal item rooted in sportswear and military wear. As times have shifted, informal items have transitioned into formal ones, and the navy blazer now straddles the line between informal and formal, allowing for versatility across various boundaries.

The navy blazer pairs ideally with gray wool pants and can be styled with denim, cotton trousers, or even sweatpants, as seen in some brands' lookbooks. It's a versatile item that can accommodate a wide range of bottoms and inner layers. Given its adaptability, it's wise to own navy blazers in different fabrics and details for each season, such as hopsack, flannel, cashmere, or worsted wool. Variations can also include single or double-breasted designs, gold or horn buttons, and shades of navy. For the upcoming spring, consider adding a navy blazer to your wardrobe.

Camel Safari Jacket

Is custom tailoring necessary? Yes, it's precisely that 'deliberateness' that makes it necessary. It could be to materialize a design not found in ready-to-wear, to choose a particular fabric, to tailor to one's unique physique, or even to fine-tune minor details like button balance, pocket placement, or lapel roll. These are more than enough reasons to opt for custom tailoring if you seek perfection.

The safari jacket presented here fully caters to the client's specific needs. Typically, safari jackets are made from linen or cotton, making them a staple for spring, summer, or fall casual wear. However, this one was crafted for fall and winter wear. Made from Fox Brothers' Somerset jacketing fabric, this wool material, as seen in the photos, exudes a cozy and warm feel. Every detail, including the shape of the lapel, the three-dimensional pockets, and cuff design, was meticulously crafted as per the client's request. The finishing touch of hand-stitching adds a personal, handcrafted charm to this safari jacket.

Beige Check Safari Jacket

This safari jacket has a distinctly different vibe from the one described earlier. While the former was based on a shirt pattern with minimal hardware for a soft and light silhouette, the latter is jacket-based, resulting in a firm and robust silhouette. The expression of lines also varies; the former features soft lines, while the latter opts for straight lines, contributing to their different atmospheres.

How an item is worn, tailored, and designed can entirely transform it. Seeing the different impressions created based on personal tastes adds an intriguing element to fashion.

Brown Herringbone Balmacaan Coat

These days, not only food but also well-designed interiors or spaces with expansive views are often dubbed as 'hotspots' for their respective offerings. It seems we have inadvertently become a hotspot for Balmacaan coats, judging by the completed garments of recent clients.

It probably started with our creation of the Manoc single leg-run trench coat. Our obsession with solving the challenges of raglan sleeve construction in ready-to-wear led us to research and eventually find solutions for various adjustments. Applying these solutions to bespoke tailoring allowed us to achieve elegant raglan sleeve lines.

Crafting a Balmacaan coat is particularly challenging due to the natural transition of the shoulder line from the body of the coat. Often in ready-to-wear, you might notice the front of the sleeve collapsing. Given that the sleeves are designed to lean backward, it's inevitable for the front to collapse. However, our meticulous approach ensures that every coat is sculpted to perfection.
